Director’s Recognition

The Director’s Recognition Award highlights extraordinary contributions by staff members, students, school volunteers, or community members, and is presented by the director of education, Wes Hahn, at each Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) Regular Meeting of the Board. Hahn introduced this month’s recipients of the Director’s Recognition Award.

Jennifer Lacombe, teacher at Lindsay Collegiate and Vocational Institute (LCVI), is a passionate and enthusiastic educator. Lacombe has an eclectic mix of talents in the areas of media arts, technology, and design. Even though this is her first year at LCVI, she has made a positive impact from the moment she joined our school community. Lacombe does a great job of making all students aware of the potential pathway opportunities available to them, whether it is in the area of media studies, design, entrepreneurship, or the trades.

Department head of technology and business at I.E. Weldon Secondary School (IEWSS), Alan Stanley, is a fantastic asset to the school, as well as to the technology sector in the City of Kawartha Lakes. In his role, Stanley’s proposal writing and persistence helped the school secure new, high-tech machine equipment through the Career-Ready with the Canadian Tooling & Machining Association (CTMA): Expanding Opportunities program. He has worked with elementary teachers and students to help make the challenging transition from elementary to secondary school by hosting technology open house events for students and their families. In the classroom, his students enjoy a rich technology experience that is second to none, with many graduates moving on to work in the transportation sector.

Pathways and Experiential Learning

Superintendent of learning, Kim Williams, introduced pathways consultant, Christine Moore, who presented trustees with the numerous pathways and programs available to students across the Board. Moore shared the various opportunities available to students, starting in the elementary panel in Grade 8.

Director’s Report

In his report to trustees, director of education, Wes Hahn, highlighted the connections between the TLDSB 2022-2027 Strategic Plan and the work TLDSB staff are doing each and every day, which included:

  • Enforcing data and evidence-based research across the Board and school levels
  • A strong pathways and programs focus, giving students more experiential learning opportunities
  • Indigenous student success team has been put in place to build education and meet students’ needs
  • Restructuring of the mental health team to be in schools to continue supporting students
  • A focus on leadership succession; training the next group of leaders
