On June 1, Bracebridge and Muskoka Lakes Secondary School hosted the first annual Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) Pow Wow and Drum Social to kick off the start of National Indigenous Peoples’ Month.
The day was split into a morning and afternoon session, where students, staff, parents/guardians, and community members were invited to learn about the basic traditions, protocols, dances, and music.
The Pow Wow and Drum Social was organized by the TLDSB Indigenous Student Success Team, self-identified Indigenous student leaders in the Board, and in collaboration with Oshkaabewis Dave Rice of Wasauksing First Nation, Odawa Anishinaabe Metis Knowledge Holder, Larry O’Connor, and Elder Christopher Stock from Wahta Mohawks First Nation.
